Inaugural OCAD U Gala

This past Wednesday night, Toronto’s art and design community came together in support of emerging talent at the inaugural OCAD University Gala — and what an unforgettable evening it was.

Held in celebration of innovation, artistry, and education, the launch year of Toronto’s newest signature event showcased a stunning range of student and alumni work, bringing together creatives, collectors, and philanthropists under one roof.

I was honoured to be on the planning committee for the gala, along with Amy Burstyn Fritz, Jeff Hull, Alan Gertner, Alison Milne, Dan Tanenbaum and others. The energy in the room was palpable, with spirited bidding during the art auction and meaningful conversations flowing throughout the night.

Mimran Group Inc. was proud to sponsor two tables at the event, reaffirming its ongoing commitment to fostering creative excellence and supporting the next generation of Canadian talent. The evening was a testament to what happens when art, education, and philanthropy intersect.

A personal highlight: my painting, Château Saint Martin (Lot 11), was featured in the live auction. Guests had the opportunity to bid on one-of-a-kind artwork by some of Canada’s leading and up-and-coming artists and designers including Alex Mcleod, Stanzie Tooth Steve Driscoll and yours truly, among others. I'm thrilled to share that the painting sold for well above the estimated price, thanks to competitive bidding from multiple collectors. It was incredibly meaningful to see the work resonate with the audience in that way.

Beyond the auction, the night served as a powerful reminder of the role institutions like OCAD U play in shaping Canada’s creative future — and how important it is for the business and arts communities to collaborate and support that vision.

Funds raised at the gala will establish vital student bursaries at OCAD U that minimize financial barriers to a leading art and design university education. This crucial support fosters the growth and talent of future creative leaders and innovators.

Grateful to OCAD U for hosting such a dynamic event, and to everyone who came out to celebrate and support the arts. Looking forward to doing it again next year!
